An orange orange

If you have visited my blog before, you may have seen that I was working on a birthday gift for my mother last week, sharing with you this small detail photo:
Orange WIP detail

And here is the final product - a sewing kit in the shape of an orange!
Og her er det ferdige produktet!

OUTSIDE
Orange, outside

INSIDE (pin cushion on one half, zipper pouch on the other)
Orange, applique

The pattern is from Straight Stitch Society, a new venture by Liesl Gibson, most known for her childrens' clothing pattern line Oliver + S. The pattern also includes an option to make an apple.

The pattern came together quite easily, considering all the curved seams. My only disappointment was that the orange actually is more the size of a large grape fruit! I had expected it to be a bit daintier... I guess I should have read the pattern where it said the finished size was 4".

To go with the gift, I purchased some notions to put in the gift - some pins, sewing needles, Aurifil thread and some cute ribbon. Here is the sewing kit "in action".
Her er appelsinen "i bruk".
Orange, filled

I think my mother was pleased with the gift:)

PS: You should check out the Straight Stitch Society Manifesto, it is really cute. My mom had a laugh at number 5. I like number 4 - Don't make it if it's not supercute. Not that everything has to be cute per say, but it is a good reminder to only make things that you really like. Number 9 is also a good point.

OK, time to get sewing on some quilt blocks! I need to get caught up on my quilt-alongs...
